This lovely place inspires and intrigues my creative sensibilities fostering a frontier spirit of working the land and building community. My great grandmother Sarah Bates was a fruit rancher here in Solano County and my grandmother was born in Vacaville, California. I spent my formative years living in Kabul, Afghanistan because my father took a position to lead a project to establish the press for the government in 1960, a time of forward development for this emerging nation. Needless to say, this exposure to different cultures made a deep impression on me. Now, fast forward to current times and after a career as a technologist and raising a family, in 2007 I began a practice as a ceramic artist establishing a small pottery studio, joining a co-op and selling my work locally. Working with clay is a meditation and a way of life that is compelling and calming.
